Wellesley Theatre Project’s production of Shrek, The Musical will be performed on Friday Aug. 2 at 7pm and Saturday, Aug. 3 at 2pm at Wellesley High School Auditorium. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or online at www.wellesleytheatreproject.
The musical is based on the 2001 DreamWorks animated film and this production will feature a live orchestra and cast/crew of 25 Summer Production Camp students between the ages of 7 and 14.
One interesting twist is that with Shrek, The Musical only recently being released to amateur production houses, stage props were hard to come by. So to address one need — an extendable and retractable Pinocchio nose — Wellesley Theatre Project reached out to engineering students at nearby Olin College, and students Cullen Ross and Elliott Donlon answered the call by using a 3D printer (shown below) to come up with a design (at a recent Weston production of the musical, a 22-foot dragon starred). The nose and more will be on display at this weekend’s shows.![Pinocchio nose, olin, wellesley theatre]()
